Meet with our guide and continue towards Berat at 7 am and head towards the Osum Canyon, immersing ourselves in the breathtaking scenery. Among green valleys, rivers, hills, small villages asleep over time. Before arriving at our destination, we stop along the way for a coffee stop.
The grand canyon on the Osum River is one of those must-see attractions for all nature and adventure lovers. Surely Albania is a land of water: rivers, lakes, streams, and canyons follow one another from north to south, at the base of the major mountain ranges. But the Osum Grand Canyon has something extra. We are first of all talking about the beauty of the site at a naturalistic level. Along the way to get here we are submerged by the intense green of the vegetation, then the environment of the canyon takes us into a unique atmosphere. Throughout millions of years, the water of the river in flood has carved out the rocky walls, millimeter after millimeter, giving life to an unrepeatable spectacle. Small caverns, underground passages, huge caves unexplored today appear along the entire path of the canyon. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the tributaries of the Osum River and the high peaks of Mount Tomorr. Our exploration begins with a visit to the "Panoramic Flag Curve", one of the most beautiful spots in the canyon.
Back on board our vehicles, on the way back, after about half an hour of travel, we reach Bogova, a picturesque village famous for its waters and waterfalls. From the center of the village, we continue on foot, to immerse ourselves in the fluvial atmosphere. Slowly we begin to hear a rumble that peeps in our ears. It is the sound of nature, the sound of the waterfalls we are approaching. Magic occurs only within a protected natural area, away from the noise of traffic and city chaos. Overcoming grazing animals, crossing small wooden bridges, we reach the Bogova waterfalls. Here we will have the opportunity to have lunch (optional). After lunch optional lunch (not included), we will leave to reach Berat, one of the most beautiful and evocative destinations in Albania. We invite you to discover the secrets of a city that has remained practically intact over time. The historic center was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008 as a "rare example of a well-preserved Ottoman city". Visiting the area of white houses, perfectly perched on top of each other in the Mangalem district, you will discover why Berat has earned the nickname of "city of chasing windows". The Gorica district and its Ottoman bridge, the Castle of Berat, a citadel built to protect the forty-two churches that were located here. Today six of them remain, and the ancient Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition of the Virgin, home to the Onufri Iconographic Museum. After visiting Berat, we continue the return journey.
