Durres Port- Durres 3-4 Hrs Tour
On this tour, you will discover the city of Durres and learn about its colorful history and remarkable architecture and culture. Durres is a very ancient city, but today its antiquities are only visible intermittently. Originally a Greek colony, it has endured Roman and Byzantine rule and more recently a long, dark chapter under a severe Communist dictatorship. It is a busy port, located at the narrowest passage of the Adriatic Sea just across from Bari, Italy. Notable sites in Durres itself include a large, but only partially unearthed Roman amphitheater, built in the 2nd Century AD by Emperor Trajan. It is a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage inscription, surrounded and in a few cases occupied by modern housing. Nearby, a colonnade of a 5th Century Byzantine marketplace is another surviving relic.
Meet at the port our representative. Your representative will guide you to your transport ready to commence your 4-hour tour. On this tour, you will discover the city of Durres and learn about its colorful history and remarkable architecture and culture. The city is home to the Durres Ancient City Wall which is known locally as Durres Castle and there is also an Amphitheatre which is the largest in the Balkans. Next on your tour is the Durres Archaeological Museum which was established in 1951. The bulk of the museum consists of artifacts found in the nearby Amphitheatre and Roman Baths and includes many examples of Roman possessions. After you tour the museum, you will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch in a traditional, local restaurant or café before exploring the shops and boutiques in the city. You are also able to visit the beach where you can enjoy a leisurely swim before returning to port.
